Entry
Most foreign visitors must submit the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within 3 days before arrival (some travellers, for example Singapore citizens, are exempt). Indonesians and most ASEAN and Western nationalities are visa-free for short stays. Use only the official immigration site - there are many paid copycat sites.
Culture - take note
Malaysia is multicultural (Malay, Chinese, Indian) and officially Muslim. Dress modestly, especially in Kelantan and Terengganu and at mosques (cover arms, legs and, for women, hair when entering). Use the right hand. Remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. During Ramadan be discreet about eating in public. Alcohol is sold but expensive; drug trafficking carries the death penalty. Vapes are regulated and banned in some states.
Emergency
Police and ambulance 999. Fire 994. From a mobile phone 112 also works.
