Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is mandatory for all foreign visitors, by air, land or sea. It is free, online only, and can be submitted within 3 days (72 hours) before arrival (including the arrival day). Indonesians and most ASEAN citizens enter visa-free for short stays, and many other nationalities are visa-exempt too - the number of days has changed in recent years, so check the official e-Visa site for your passport.

Culture - take note

The monarchy is deeply respected and protected by strict lese-majeste laws: never joke about or disrespect the royal family, images or banknotes (they carry the King's portrait). Dress modestly at temples (cover shoulders and knees; remove shoes). Do not touch anyone's head or point your feet at people or Buddha images. Monks must not be touched by women. The 'wai' (palms together) is the polite greeting. E-cigarettes and vapes are illegal. Alcohol sales have set hours and are banned on some Buddhist holidays.

Emergency

Tourist police 1155 (English). Emergency 191. Ambulance 1669.
