Entry

Most sources say Indonesian citizens need a visa for Algeria, applied for at the Algerian embassy in Jakarta before you travel (allow several weeks). Typical documents: passport valid for 6 months, photos, travel insurance, hotel booking or an invitation, and a return ticket. Some tours to the south arranged by an approved agency are reported to get a visa on arrival - confirm with your operator. One site claims visa-free entry; do not rely on it. Confirm everything with the Algerian embassy before you book.

Culture and safety - take note

Algeria is a conservative Muslim country, hospitable and proud of its history. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered). The weekend is Friday-Saturday and Ramadan changes daily life. Arabic and French are widely used. Cash (dinar) is needed - cards are rarely accepted outside big hotels. Do not photograph government, police or military sites, and ask before photographing people. Some governments advise against travel near the borders and in remote parts of the Sahara - check Kemlu and other advisories, and travel in the south only with an approved agency. Alcohol is limited. Halal food is everywhere. Summers are very hot.

Emergency
