🕌 Bahrain

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Sources disagree on whether Indonesians need an eVisa, can get a visa on arrival (only with certain other visas), or an electronic authorisation, and on the fee and stay (reported 14 or 30 days). Use the official eVisa service to check the current rule and apply - do not use paid middlemen - or ask the Bahraini embassy in Jakarta. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket and hotel details. If you plan to cross the King Fahd Causeway to Saudi Arabia, you need a Saudi visa as well.

Culture and laws - take note

Bahrain is a small, open Muslim island nation, more relaxed than many neighbours but still conservative. Dress modestly in public (shoulders and knees covered); swimwear only at hotels and beach resorts. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and restaurants only; never drink in public or drive after drinking. During Ramadan do not eat, drink or smoke in public in daylight. Do not criticise the ruling family or religion, and do not photograph government or military sites; drones need a permit. The weekend is Friday-Saturday. Summers are very hot and humid - plan outdoor time for the early morning or evening. Halal food everywhere.

Emergency

999 for police, ambulance and fire.
