🌴 Brazil

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Travel sources say Indonesian citizens can visit Brazil for tourism without a visa for about 30 days, but none is an official page - confirm with the Brazilian foreign ministry or the Brazilian embassy in Jakarta before you book. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and funds. Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for many regions (especially the Amazon and the north) and may be asked for - check with a doctor and the official health advice.

Culture and safety - take note

The language is Portuguese, not Spanish. Brazilians are warm and informal: expect hugs, cheek kisses and close personal space. Keep an eye on time - plans are loose. Restaurants often add a 10% service charge. Safety needs care in big cities: do not wear flashy jewellery or show phones, use ride-hailing apps, avoid empty streets and beaches at night, and visit favelas only with a licensed local tour. Beaches have strong currents - heed the lifeguard flags. For the Amazon and the Pantanal use a licensed operator. Carnival (February or March) is crowded and prices rise. Halal food is easiest in Sao Paulo and large cities.

Emergency

Police 190. Ambulance 192. Fire 193.
