Entry
Sources disagree: some say Indonesian citizens need a visa for the Dominican Republic from the embassy, while one says visa-free entry for up to about 30 days with a small tourist card (often included in the airfare). Confirm with the Dominican foreign ministry or an embassy before you book. Arrivals are also asked to fill in an online entry/exit form (the 'e-ticket') - check the official immigration site and your airline for how it works for your trip. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket, hotel details and proof of funds.

The capital, whose UNESCO Colonial Zone holds the oldest European-built cathedral and streets in the Americas.
A north-coast resort city with a cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres, beaches and Victorian-style houses.

Culture and practical - take note
Dominicans are friendly, loud and musical - merengue and bachata are everywhere. Spanish is spoken. Resorts are easy, but outside them keep valuables hidden and use official taxis or apps. Hurricane season runs about June to November - buy travel insurance. Beaches can have strong rip currents. Drink bottled water. Tipping about 10% where service is not included, and a little extra at resorts. Do not ride motorbike taxis without a helmet, and do not buy or carry drugs. Dress modestly in churches. Halal food is limited outside Santo Domingo.
