Entry
Indonesian visitors need a visa. Guides disagree on whether it can be obtained as an e-Visa online, on arrival, or only at the embassy - and on the fee - so check the official Egypt e-Visa portal and the Egyptian Embassy in Jakarta before you book, and apply early. Passport validity of at least 6 months and an onward ticket are usually required. Use only the official portal; copycat sites charge extra. Check your government's travel advice for the Sinai and border regions.
Culture and practical - take note
Muslim-majority with a large Coptic Christian community: dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees; women carry a scarf for mosques) and take off shoes in mosques. Friday is the main prayer day; Ramadan changes opening hours. Tipping ('baksheesh') is expected for many small services - carry small notes. Bargain in markets, and agree prices BEFORE rides, camel rides and guides at the pyramids; politely refuse 'free' help that ends in a demand for money. Do not photograph military sites, bridges or police; drones are banned. Drink bottled water and avoid ice from unknown places. Summer heat is extreme - visit sites early. Take care crossing busy roads.
Emergency
