READ FIRST - safety
Many governments currently advise against travel to Iran, and conflict in the region can close airspace and borders at short notice. Detentions of foreigners have been reported. Check the Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) advice and other governments' advisories just before you book and again before you fly, buy insurance that covers Iran, and keep the contact of the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran. Foreign-issued bank cards do not work there - bring cash.
Entry
Iran has an official electronic visa (e-Visa) system, but whether Indonesian citizens can use it, or must apply through the Iranian embassy in Jakarta, is not confirmed in the sources we found - check the official e-Visa site and the embassy before you book. Use only the official site; many agents charge far more. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket and hotel details.

Culture and laws - take note
Iranians are famously hospitable. Islamic dress rules apply to everyone in public: women must cover their hair with a scarf and wear a loose long top, and men should avoid shorts. Alcohol is banned and drugs carry severe penalties. Public displays of affection are not allowed. Do not photograph military, government or police sites, airports or bridges, and ask before photographing people, especially women. Avoid political discussion, and never criticise the leadership or religion. The weekend is Thursday-Friday or Friday only. 'Taarof' is a polite ritual of offering and refusing - accept after a second offer. Summers are very hot. Halal food everywhere.
