🏜️ Jordan

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Guides disagree on how Indonesians get a Jordanian visa (on arrival for a fee, or arranged in advance), so confirm with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jordanian embassy in Jakarta before you book. The Jordan Pass is the official bundle: it includes Petra and over 40 other sites and waives the tourist visa fee if you stay at least three nights - the validity rules changed in 2026, so check the Jordan Pass site for the current terms and prices. Security in the wider region can change quickly: check the Indonesian Foreign Ministry's advisory and other governments' advice just before you travel.

Culture - take note

Jordan is welcoming, Muslim-majority and conservative: dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered, loose clothes), especially outside the tourist resorts. The weekend is Friday-Saturday; Ramadan changes opening hours. Accept coffee and tea when offered - shake the cup gently to say 'enough'. Use the right hand and ask before photographing people. At the Dead Sea do not shave beforehand, keep water out of your eyes and do not stay in too long. At Petra walk early to avoid heat, wear sturdy shoes, agree prices before camel or horse rides, and note that Petra by Night is a separate ticket. Alcohol is available in hotels and licensed venues. Halal food everywhere.

Emergency

911 for emergencies (ask your hotel for the local police and ambulance numbers).
