Entry
Sources disagree: one commercial site says Indonesians can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for 30 days, but official visa-free lists we found do not include Indonesia, and other sources say an e-Visa is needed. Treat a visa as likely and check the official e-Visa site or the Kyrgyz embassy before you book. Bring a passport valid for 6 months and an onward ticket. Foreign visitors normally register within a few days of arrival - hotels do this for you, so keep the slip.
Culture and travel - take note
Kyrgyzstan is Muslim-majority but relaxed, with a strong nomad tradition. Staying in a yurt: take your shoes off, do not step on the threshold, accept tea, bread and the fermented mare's milk (kymyz) at least with a small taste. Greet with a handshake (men) and a nod. Mountain weather changes fast and summers are short; the high passes close in winter. Roads outside the main routes are rough: hire a driver or a licensed guide for treks and horse rides. Some border areas need a permit - ask your operator. Altitude can cause sickness around Song-Kol and the high passes. Carry cash (som) outside Bishkek. Halal food is common.
