Entry

Sources disagree on how Indonesians enter Mauritius: some say visa-free for a short stay, others say a visa is issued on arrival (reported up to 60 days). Confirm with the Passport and Immigration Office or a Mauritian embassy before you book, and check whether an online arrival form is asked for your flight. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket, hotel details and proof of funds.

Culture and practical - take note

Mauritius is a mix of Hindu, Muslim, Christian and Buddhist communities living side by side, with Creole, French and English spoken. Dress modestly when visiting temples and mosques (remove shoes; cover shoulders and knees). Halal food is easy to find. Cars drive on the left. The cyclone season runs roughly November to April - check forecasts. Swim only where it is safe, as currents outside the reef can be strong, and use reef-safe sun cream. Tipping is appreciated but small. Take care not to touch or take corals and shells.

Emergency

999 for police, ambulance and fire (112 also works).
