Entry

Most sources say Indonesian citizens need a visa for North Macedonia, applied for at a Macedonian embassy or consulate before you travel (allow several weeks); one site claims visa-free entry, which is not supported by the others. Confirm the current rule and any exemption for holders of other valid visas with the Macedonian foreign ministry or embassy before you book. North Macedonia is not part of the Schengen Area. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket, hotel details and proof of funds. Foreign guests are registered with the police - hotels do this for you.

Culture and practical - take note

North Macedonia has a mix of Orthodox Christian (mostly Macedonian) and Muslim (mostly Albanian and Turkish) communities. In Skopje's Old Bazaar halal food and Turkish coffee are easy to find. Dress modestly in mosques and churches. Lake Ohrid is the main attraction - swim only in marked areas and avoid the water after storms. The currency is the denar. Haggling is normal in the bazaar. Winters are cold; summers are hot. Be careful with political topics about borders and national identity. Tip about 10%. Take care on mountain roads.
