⛵ Oman

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Sources disagree: some say Indonesian citizens can enter Oman for tourism without a visa for a short stay (reported as up to 14 days, with a hotel booking, insurance and return ticket), while others say an e-Visa is required. Check the Royal Oman Police e-Visa portal or the Omani embassy in Jakarta before you book. Apply only on the official site, not through paid middlemen. Bring a passport valid for at least 6 months.

Culture and laws - take note

Oman is a conservative, very welcoming Muslim country. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) in public, also at the beach outside resorts. Alcohol is served only in licensed hotels and restaurants; never drink in public or drive after drinking. During Ramadan do not eat, drink or smoke in public in daylight. Ask permission before photographing people, especially women, and do not photograph military sites; drones need a permit. The weekend is Friday-Saturday. At the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque follow the dress code (women cover hair). In the wadis and desert, beware of flash floods in rain and of extreme heat; use a licensed guide for dune driving. Halal food everywhere.

Emergency
