Entry

Most sources say Indonesian citizens need a visa for Senegal, applied for at a Senegalese embassy before you travel (allow several weeks); one site claims visa-free entry, which the others do not support. The usual documents are a passport valid for 6 months, photos, a return ticket, proof of accommodation and a yellow fever certificate, and an entry authorisation may be required. Confirm the current rule with the Senegalese foreign ministry or an embassy before you book. Ask a doctor about malaria prevention.

Culture and practical - take note

Senegal is over 90% Muslim and famous for 'teranga' - warm hospitality. Greet people properly and ask after their family; use the right hand. Dress modestly, especially outside tourist beaches. Friday is the main prayer day. Halal food is everywhere. In markets and on beaches expect persistent sellers - a polite 'no merci' works. Ask before photographing people. Keep copies of your passport and avoid walking alone at night. Swim only where it is safe - Atlantic currents are strong. Gorée Island is a memorial of the slave trade: be respectful. Some governments advise caution in the Casamance region and near the borders - check advisories. French and Wolof are spoken.
