Entry
Sources say Indonesian citizens need an e-Visa for tourism (reported fee about USD 50, stay up to 30 days), applied for on the official immigration portal. Many look-alike sites charge extra - use only the official one, and confirm the fee and rules there. Bring a passport valid for 6 months and an onward ticket. A yellow fever certificate is needed if you arrive from a risk country. Ask a doctor about malaria prevention.
Culture and practical - take note
Greetings matter: say 'Jambo' or 'Habari' and shake hands gently. Dress modestly in towns; Zanzibar is almost fully Muslim, so cover shoulders and knees away from the hotel beach and respect Ramadan. Ask before photographing people (some ask for a small payment) and never photograph government or military sites; drones are banned without permission. Plastic carrier bags are banned - do not bring them in your luggage. On safari stay in the vehicle, follow the guide and keep quiet near animals. For Kilimanjaro use a registered operator, climb slowly and accept the guide's advice on altitude sickness. Tip guides, drivers and porters - ask your operator for the usual amounts. Halal food is easy in Zanzibar and coastal towns.
Emergency
112. Your safari operator or hotel can give you local police and ambulance numbers.
