🎈 Turkey (Türkiye)

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Indonesian citizens can generally visit Türkiye for tourism without a visa for a short stay - guides differ on whether this is 30 or 90 days, so confirm on the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs site. Passport validity rules are strict (many guides say at least 90-150 days beyond arrival): check before you fly. Other nationalities may need an e-Visa; the only official e-Visa website is evisa.gov.tr - type the address yourself and ignore copycat sites that charge extra. Carry proof of accommodation and a return ticket.

Culture - take note

Muslim-majority and secular: dress freely in cities and resorts, but cover shoulders and knees (and women's hair) and take off shoes in mosques; avoid visiting during prayer times. Friday is the main prayer day. During Ramadan, be discreet about eating in public in conservative areas. Insulting Atatürk, the Turkish flag or the state is a crime - never joke about them. Exporting antiquities is illegal. Tea (cay) and coffee are offered in shops as hospitality - accepting is polite; bargaining is normal in bazaars. Tipping about 10% in restaurants. Halal food is everywhere. Alcohol is sold but expensive. Take care with taxi scams and 'free' offers near tourist sites. Earthquakes occur - know your hotel's exits.

Emergency

112 for police, ambulance and fire (one unified number).
