Entry
Rules for Indonesian passport holders changed in 2026: the UAE widened visa-on-arrival to more nationalities including Indonesians, but only if you also hold a valid residence permit from certain countries (for example the US, EU states, UK, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada) - the passport alone is not enough. Otherwise arrange the visa in advance (through the airline, a licensed agent or the official ICP / GDRFA channels). Rules change quickly - confirm on the official ICP site before you book. Passport usually needs 6 months' validity.
Culture and laws - take note
The UAE is modern and international but Islamic law and strict rules apply. Dress modestly in public places (shoulders and knees covered in malls, mosques and government buildings); swimwear only at beaches and pools. Public displays of affection can lead to complaints. Alcohol is served only in licensed venues, and being drunk in public is an offence. Illegal drugs: zero tolerance, even small traces; some common medicines (certain painkillers, sleeping and ADHD medicines, including codeine) are controlled - carry the prescription and check the rules before you fly. Do not photograph people without permission or government buildings, and be careful what you post online - insults and offensive gestures are offences. During Ramadan, do not eat, drink or smoke in public in daylight. Drones need a permit. Summer heat is extreme (June-September) - plan outdoor activities for the evening.
