Entry
Most sources say Indonesian citizens need a visa for Uruguay, applied for at a Uruguayan embassy or consulate before you travel (allow several weeks), while one site claims visa-free entry for up to 90 days. Confirm the current rule with the Uruguayan foreign ministry or an embassy before you book. Bring a passport valid for 6 months, a return ticket, hotel details and proof of funds.

Culture and practical - take note
Uruguayans are calm, polite and fond of 'mate' - you will see people walking with a thermos and a gourd. Greet with a single cheek kiss. Spanish is spoken. Barbecue (asado) is a social event and dinner starts late. The beach season is December to March, and Punta del Este is very busy then. Montevideo is generally safe, but keep valuables hidden and watch for pickpockets. Tip about 10%. Cannabis is legal only for residents, not tourists. Halal food is limited.
