🕌 Uzbekistan

Entry rules, culture notes and emergency numbers.

Entry

Most travel guides say Indonesian passport holders can visit Uzbekistan visa-free for tourism for up to about 30 days, but we could not confirm this on an official page - check with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the embassy before you book. Nationalities that need a visa apply on the official e-Visa portal. Expect to need a passport valid for 6 months and an onward ticket. Hotels normally register foreign guests with the authorities for you - keep the registration slip. If you stay in private housing, ask the host about registration.

Culture - take note

Muslim-majority, hospitable and relatively secular. Dress modestly at mosques, madrasas and mausoleums in Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva (cover shoulders and knees). Greet with a handshake (men) or a hand on the heart. Bread (non) is sacred: never put it upside down or throw it away. Accept tea when offered. Cards are accepted in cities but carry cash (som) for markets and villages; bargaining is normal. Do not photograph military or government buildings. Halal food is everywhere. Summers are very hot and winters cold - spring and autumn are best. Book high-speed trains early.

Emergency

Police 102. Fire 101. Ambulance 103.
