Bogor is about 60 km south of Jakarta: roughly 1.5-2.5 hours by road from Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) via the Jagorawi toll road, depending on traffic. Commuter Line trains from Jakarta run to Bogor Station. Puncak, Cisarua and Cibodas lie further up the old Jakarta-Bandung road.
Bogor is nicknamed the rain city: showers are frequent, especially in the afternoon, and the wet months run roughly October to April. The drier months, roughly May to September, are best. Go in the morning, and avoid Puncak on weekends and long holidays, when the road jams badly and police may run one-way or odd-even plate rules, so ask us for current rules.
The region is mostly Muslim and Sundanese: dress modestly at mosques and villages and use your right hand to give and receive. Most local food is halal and prayer rooms are common, but some Chinese-Indonesian eateries around Suryakencana serve pork, so ask first. Puncak is cool, so bring a jacket.
In Bogor city use ride-hailing apps or the local angkot minivans. Puncak sights are spread along one busy road, so a car with driver is the easiest way to link them and to time the traffic. Plan only two or three stops a day.
